Federal Nomination Contest Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 7:00 PM Our candidates for nomination as NDP candidate in Kitchener-Conestoga Duncan Haslam Duncan spent 24 years as CUPE National Representative
based in Burnaby, Hamilton and Kitchener. Regularly led negotiations in
the public sector; handled grievances, including presentations to arbitration
boards or single arbitrators; Instructed CUPE members, organized seminars
and facilitated members in various courses; problem-solving on a daily
basis re. interpretations of collective agreements, extended health benefits,
unemployment insurance, internal disputes, personal problems, workplace
issues; organized new groups into representation by the CUPE; participated
in various provincial, federal and municipal election campaigns as a Campaign
Manager. 1 year as CUPE Assistant Regional Director based in Scarborough.
Amber-Leah Timmons has been with the Ontario New Democrats for a little more than one year and has quickly gained many positions within the Party, including vice-president and membership secretary of the local riding executive and Co-Chair of our Southwest LGBT caucus. She has stepped into the caucus with hopes to improve our Kitchener-Conestoga community. She has taken the liberty to write an article for the Ontario NDP Youth magazine, “Socialism and Freedom” in order to introduce herself to Ontarian youth. She has much interest when it comes to positive change and as Co-Chair of the Southwest LGBT caucus, is currently involved with a fundraiser event coming up on July 21st with a portion of the proceeds is going to support cancer research. She is excited about her involvement and the opportunity to effect positive change.
